Meet Our Passionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Dr. Linda Mays

I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to supporting individuals at every stage of their mental health journey. In my independent practice, I draw on years of experience in research, counseling, teaching, supervision, and consultation to provide thoughtful, compassionate, and comprehensive care.

I have been licensed as a psychiatric nurse practitioner in Florida (APRN3214672) since 2014 and in Kentucky (APRN3009438) since 2015. My commitment to lifelong learning is reflected in my educational background, which includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Clinical Research Management, a Post-Master’s Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.

My clinical training and experience span the entire lifespan, allowing me to work with children, adolescents, pregnant individuals, adults, and older adults. I also have specialized training in trauma through the Trauma Resolution Center, equipping me to help individuals navigate complex and difficult life experiences with sensitivity and skill.

At the core of my practice is a genuine commitment to guiding, supporting, and empowering clients as they work toward improved mental health and overall well-being.

Our Holistic Approach to Psychiatry & Psychotherapy

Alongside my private practice, I have the privilege of serving as a clinical supervisor, mentor, and preceptor for graduate nurses and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner students. I’ve had the honor of holding faculty appointments with prestigious master’s programs at the University of Miami, Nova Southeastern University and Walden University. I’m also an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the Florida Nurses Association, ensuring that my practice is guided by the most current scientific research and best practices.

My research is driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact, including studying how tobacco smoke affects medication efficacy and exploring ways to foster greater empathy among police officers towards citizens with mental illness.

In my clinical practice, I walk alongside patients as they navigate various life transitions. Whether it’s pregnant women and their unborn children, children, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged adults, seniors, or the elderly. My approach is holistic and integrative, offering not only counseling and medication management but also exploring complementary treatments such as herbal preparations, aromatherapy, vitamins and minerals, brief and ongoing psychotherapy, spiritual counseling, and psychoeducation.

At the heart of my work is a deep commitment to empowering my patients to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.

“Healing may not be so much about getting better as about letting go of everything that isn’t you – all of the expectations, all of the beliefs – and becoming who you are.”
